Associate Professor Nicole C. Nelson receives Vilas Associates Competition Award for 2022-2023

Nicole C. Nelson, Associate Professor, Department of Medical History and Bioethics has received a 2022-23 Vilas Associates Competition award.  The competition recognizes “new and ongoing research of the highest quality and significance”.

Nicole’s funded project will study the role of conservative-leaning organizations in advocating for open science policy. Her team will examine debates around the 2017 HONEST Act and the 2021 Strengthening Transparency in Regulatory Science rule, which both proposed preventing the Environmental Protection Agency from using data that isn’t open or can’t be reproduced as part of its policy-making process. This study will help scientists and policy makers understand the potential consequences of open science reforms in an era of political and ideological polarization.

Congratulations, Nicole!
