This talk will explore the ethical and existential challenges raised by the use of “empathic” AI in clinical encounters, focusing on whether chatbots can meet patients’ justified expectations of recognition, trust, and respect. Drawing on philosophical analysis, it will examine why recognition may be a precondition for good clinical care, and what ethical considerations must be met if AI chatbots are to play a legitimate role in patient-facing medicine.

A unique opportunity for anyone interested to engage directly with cutting-edge debates on AI, ethics, and the future of healthcare! For more information and the link to register for the Zoom, head to ETH Zurich’s event page.
