Research Interests
My work focuses on knowledge-shaping and the intersection of theory and practice in early modern pharmacy. My recent article investigates the 1547 inventory of French apothecary Rostand de Gréoux, using it as a starting point to examine the methodologies through which scholars understand pharmaceutical records. In questioning close readings and reconceptualizing comparisons, it asks how we can reconstruct the medical marketplace as a space of globality and multiplicity, as a space of individual intricacies in practice and theory. My current work explores how apothecaries understood and utilized systems of weight and measure, especially as it influenced how they perceived botanical simples, how they crafted compound remedies, and how they interacted with and advised their customers.
